Skyliners junior entered the ISU Synchronized Skating Junior World Championships 2026 Friday in Gdansk, Poland, looking to keep multiple winning streaks alive.

The six-time World Junior medalists, who have twice secured silver and clinched bronze last season, have stood on the podium at the Junior World Championships every year they've attended since 2018 (they withdrew in 2020 after the COVID-19 pandemic hit and the event was canceled in 2021). They also have medaled at every event they've competed at this season.

After the first day of competition, Skyliners junior is in position to keep both streaks going, finishing the segment in second place with 77.58 points, a new international season's best.

The team from Fairfield, Connecticut, earned Level 4s on all five elements in their "gangster" themed program and generated more than nine points each for their intersection, twizzle element and move element.

"After our skate, it felt like we gave it our all and left nothing on the ice," Skyliners junior skater Mia Johmann said. "During our skate, we worked together as a team and were all on the same page mentally to put out our best for every element. We put up a fight for the entire program and left no regrets on the ice. We skated with confidence and like we already belonged on the podium, which I think helped us make it there. We are so proud of the skate we put out."

Teams Elite junior, the reigning Junior World champions who have won three straight U.S. titles, performed to "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston and claimed the second-highest components score of the day with 33.82 points.

However, the team from Northbrook, Illinois, only recorded Level 4s on three elements and had a fall on their last element, dropping them to fifth place with 72.37 points.

"We felt as if we had done everything we possibly could have," said Maddie Ortiz from Teams Elite junior. "We have zero regrets, and we are so proud of the hard work we've put into this program."

Competition continues Saturday with the junior free skates. Competition begins at 9 a.m. ET.
