U.S. Figure Skating announced today that
Skyliners junior and the
Lexettes will represent Team USA at the ISU World Junior Synchronized Skating Championships 2023 set for March 10-11 in Angers, France.
Skyliners junior has medaled three of the last four years the World Junior Championships has been held and made history each year in the process. After becoming the first U.S. team to medal at the event in 2018,
Skyliners junior earned the nation's best-ever finish in 2019 when they secured silver. Last season, the team out of the Skating Club of New York brought home silver once again, and combined with
Teams Elite junior, rewrote the history books as the United States had two teams on the podium for the first time.
This season, the six-time U.S. champions medaled at both their Challenger Series events, winning their first-ever Challenger Series gold at Mozart Cup before claiming bronze at Leon Lurje Trophy.
The
Lexettes have qualified for their first World Junior Team since 2018. They competed at the World Junior Championships or World Junior Challenge Cup for six straight years between 2013 and 2018.
The junior team from Norwood, Massachusetts, punched their ticket to France with the gold medal at the final Challenger Series event of the season, the Spring Cup. In Italy, they set new international season's best scores for their short program, free skate and total score.
Teams Elite junior was named first alternate while
Team Image, the 2022 U.S. junior champions, was selected as the second alternate.
