Three U.S. synchronized skating teams will compete this weekend at the Leon Lurje Trophy in Gothenburg, Sweden, Jan. 27-29.
One senior and two junior teams will represent the stars and stripes at the third ISU Challenger Series Synchronized Skating event of the 2022-23 season. The Haydenettes will compete in the senior event, while Skyliners junior and Team Image will skate in the junior competition.
Two teams are on the road again for the second weekend in a row. This past weekend, the Haydenettes, which are five-time World Synchronized Championships bronze medalists, earned a silver medal at Mozart Cup in Salzburg, Austria.
Also competing in back-to-back competitions is Skyliners junior. The team is hoping to earn another podium finish after winning their best-ever result at a Challenger Series event when they clinched gold at the Mozart Cup last weekend.
Joining Skyliners junior in the junior competition is Team Image. The reigning U.S. junior champions out of Hackensack, New Jersey, will compete in their second Challenger Series event of the season after placing fourth at the Neuchatel Trophy earlier this month.
Competition begins on Friday, Jan. 27, with the junior and senior short programs, and concludes Saturday, Jan. 28 with the junior and senior free skates.
The Challenger Series, which began in 2019-20, consists of up to five international competitions linked together to give adequate opportunities for teams to compete at the international level, earn World Standing Points and prepare for competing at the ISU Championships.
