Seven U.S. skaters have qualified for the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final 2023, which will take place Dec. 7-10 in Beijing, China.
Â
Team USA will be represented in three of the four disciplines: two ice dance teams with
Leah Neset and Artem Markelov and
Yahli Pedersen and Jeffrey Chen, while
Daniel Martynov will take the ice in the men's event, and
Olivia Flores and Luke Wang will represent the red, white and blue in the pairs competition. All seven athletes are first-time qualifiers for the event.
Â
Two-time U.S. junior champions Neset and Markelov topped the ISU junior ice dance standings after securing two golds in the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series. The duo was one of only two teams to win two golds, topping the podium at the first Junior Grand Prix in Thailand – where they earned their top score of the season with 168.47 points – and then again in Japan.
Â
Joining Neset and Markelov in China will be Pedersen and Chen. In their first season together after teaming up in April 2023, Pedersen and Chen earned silver medals in Turkey and Hungary.
Â
Martynov clinched his place at the JGP Final after winning the gold at the last Junior Grand Prix of the season in Armenia, where he set new international personal bests in the short program, free skate and total score. He also earned bronze at JGP Japan.
Â
In the pairs competition, Flores and Wang will take center stage for Team USA in their first season competing in the JGP Series. They earned their roster spot by winning a pair of silvers at the JGPs in Austria and Turkey.
