2026 U.S. Olympic Figure Skating Team Celebrates Olympic & Paralympic Day

6/23/2026 10:30:00 AM

Olympic & Paralympic Day is a celebration of the Olympic and Paralympic movements and the joy of sport by millions of people around the world. Held annually on June 23, the day celebrates fitness, well-being, sport culture and educational opportunities, while promoting the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect, and the Paralympic values of determination, inspiration, courage and equality.

In the spirit of the occasion, we caught up with the 16 members of the U.S. Olympic Figure Skating Team and asked them which Olympian outside of figure skating do you enjoy watching most and why?
Here's what they had to say:

Vadym Kolesnik: Michael Phelps. I've been saying it every single year. He's got the dog in him. I'm hoping to meet him one day. I think what he's done for his sport is unbelievable and nobody has come close to that ever. I've seen his recent videos on Instagram, and he started doing a little golf. Look out Tiger Woods.

Emilea Zingas: Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. She has done a lot in her career, came back a lot. She also advocates for a lot of causes that I care about. I admire her as an athlete and as a person. Every time she steps on the track, I get excited.

Christina Carreira: Simone Biles. I've been following her since 2014 when she came onto the gymnastics scene. I've been loving her journey and she's so inspiring to me. I think she's incredible. We met her at the Olympics.

Anthony Ponomarenko: Usain Bolt. It's unreal to watch him compete. To think he committed so much work to one or two sprints at the Games; he perfected that which just shows discipline and respect for his craft.

Madison Chock: Simone Biles. Her resilience, her reframing of situations in the face of adversity is a huge inspiration to athletes all over the world just by how she's overcome adversity and risen to the top, again and again.

Evan Bates: When we were in Paris [for team event gold medal ceremony] and the basketball team had all those NBA superstars, it was Stephen Curry's first Olympics but you saw how much it meant to him. Then the way he played in the gold medal game; he caught fire and carried us to a gold medal. I think his reverence for the Olympic gold and his performance in the most pressure situation impressed me a lot. Also, just him as a person and the impact he has on his community in Oakland. He does a lot of good off the court as well as being the greatest shooter of all time. I really look up to him a lot.

Andrew Torgashev: Quinn Hughes on the U.S.A. Hockey team. The way he was dangling that puck [at the Games], was crazy.

Maxim Naumov: When I was kid growing up, I was watching the 2010 Olympics and I saw [snowboarder] Shawn White for the first time and he blew my mind. He was the "Flying Tomato"; it was so cool. Ever since then, I've kind of followed the whole half-pipe thing. I watched his whole documentary getting ready for Sochi. I'm a big sports fan in general.

Ilia Malinin: Nyjah Huston (two-time Olympic skateboarder]. The way he has a cool vibe when he goes out at the park, he's pretty sic. And Noah Lyles, he inspires me to push myself and give myself the motivation and confidence I need.

Amber Glenn: Laila Edwards, KK Harvey and Hilary Knight — they were all part of the U.S. Women's Hockey Team. They are cool people on and off the ice. We all stayed in the same building [at the Olympic Games] and would see each other on an off.

Alysa Liu: All of the speed skaters. Erin Jackson, especially. She's my GOAT. I love her.

Isabeau Levito: U.S. women's hockey player Laila Edwards.

Spencer Akira Howe: I've enjoyed watching the table tennis at the Olympics. China is super dominant in table tennis, so I love that stuff.

Emily Chan: Simone Biles is such an inspiration, and [speed skater] Apolo Ohno.

Danny O'Shea: My friend [snowboard cross] Nick Baumgartner. He's got so much joy in everything he does. He is an amazing competitor but he adds his own style to it; he always has fun with the different pants he wears and is having a good time all the way through. Win, lose, indifferent, he's always showing so much joy.

Ellie Kam: Chloe Kim. She's also somebody who is Asian American and is absolutely gorgeous, but she can also do some super badass things. She seems like she has great personality, so bubbly. Just watching her on social media and when she competes, she carriers herself really well.
