Olivia Flores and Luke Wang, competing in their third ISU Figure Skating Junior World Championships, finished fifth in the pairs free skate and fifth overall on Thursday in Tallinn, Estonia.
The Colorado Springs, Colorado-based team struggled with their early jumping passes and throw but settled in during the second half of the program to music from
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. They achieved Level 4s for two lifts and one spin at the competition held inside the Tondiraba Ice Hall.
They generated a score of 92.03 for their free skate and 144.99 overall.
Their U.S. counterparts,
Reagan Moss and Jakub Galbavy, the two-time and reigning U.S. junior pairs champions, performed to the Queen classic "Bohemian Rhapsody." They earned a free skate score of 91.25 to place sixth in the segment and a total score of 144.50 to finish seventh overall.
Moss and Galbavy, who train in Minnesota, earned Level 4s for two lifts and one spin. They experienced a fall on their throw triple loop.
With their fifth and seventh-place finishes, Flores and Wang, and Moss and Galbavy secured three pairs spots for the U.S. in the 2027 Junior World Championships.
In the women's event,
Sophie Joline von Felten, skating to emotion-filled songs "I Will Never Abandon You" and "Cassiopeia" in honor of her Skating Club of Boston rinkmates and coaches who perished in last year's tragic plane crash, posted a score of 62.62.
She earned Level 4s for her three spins. Her triple Axel-triple top loop combination received an edge call but still generated a program-high 10.67 points.
Von Felten is the 2025 U.S. junior champion and finished sixth as a senior at the 2026 U.S. Championships in St. Louis. She earned bronze medals at both of her Junior Grand Prix Series events last autumn. She placed 18th at this event in 2025.
Reigning U.S. junior champion
Angela Shao produced a personal-best short program score of 62.24 with her routine to "La Vie En Rose."
The Colorado Springs, Colorado-based skater garnered Level 4 credit for two spins and her step sequence. Her opening triple Lutz-triple toe loop combination earned a program-high 10.27 points.
Shao competed on the Junior Grand Prix circuit last fall and earned a sixth-place finish at JGP Latvia.
Competition resumes Friday with the rhythm dance, followed by the junior men's free skate. The event wraps up on Saturday with the free dance followed by the junior women's free skate.
