Christina Carreira and Anthony Ponomarenko earned the United States' first medal of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating season, taking home bronze at Grand Prix de France on Saturday.
Skating to "Élégie: Ô doux Printemps D'autrefois" by Louis Gallet and "Manon Ballet" by Leighton Lucas in the free dance, the team was awarded Level 4 marks for their dance spin, combination lift and synchronized twizzles. Their combination lift and serpentine step sequence both tallied over 10 points with the latter earning a program-high 13.78 points. Their free dance score of 111.53 and total score of 189.36 were both their highest scores so far this season.
Also competing in the free dance, Leah Neset and Artem Markelov placed fifth, while Eva Pate and Logan Bye finished sixth.
Neset and Markelov opened their "Claire de Lune" free dance with a Level 4 combination lift that generated 13.64 points. They then went on to clinch two more Level 4s for their dance spin and stationary lift, securing100.12 points in the free dance and 164.72 points overall. This result ties their highest-ever finish in the Grand Prix Series.
After finishing fourth in the rhythm dance, Pate and Bye fell to eighth place in the free dance with a segment score of 91.27. Their skate to "Roses" by Jean-Michel Blais featured a Level 4 combination lift worth 12.41 points and a Level 4 dance spin, both contributing to a total score of 156.07.
The men's event kicked off with Jacob Sanchez and Jimmy Ma collecting season-best short program scores to place fifth and seventh, respectively.
Sanchez, the reigning U.S. pewter medalist, opened his performance to "Moon" by Ludwig van Beethoven and Sofiane Pamart with a triple flip followed by a triple Axel. The two jumps combined for 17.06 points. He also earned Level 4 marks on his step sequence and combination spin, finishing with 79.63 points heading into Sunday's free skate.
Ma collected 77.11 points for his upbeat skate to "Humble" by Kendrick Lamar and Skrillix. The 2025 Four Continents bronze medalist stumbled on his opening quadruple toe loop; however, he earned positive grades of execution on each remaining element, including his triple Lutz-triple toe loop combination — which received over 10 points — and his Level 4 combination spin.
Sarah Everhardt finished in seventh place in the women's event after earning a score of 123.89 for her free skate, set to "Rain, In Your Black Eyes" by Ezio Bosso, and a cumulative score of 184.62. She struggled with her early jumping passes; her opening triple Lutz-triple toe loop combination was called underrotated and she fell on her triple flip. Nonetheless, the 2025 Four Continents bronze medalist rallied to earn Level 4s on two spins and her step sequence. Her triple loop-double Axel-double Axel sequence in the second half of her skate received 13.36 points, her highest-scoring element of the program.
Competition concludes Sunday with the pairs and men's free skates.
