U.S. Looks to Lock in Third Pairs Spot, Full Team for 2026 Olympic Winter Games

Full team would be the first in U.S. Figure Skating history since 1984

Audrey Shin and Balazs Nagy travel to Beijing, China, this week with the goal of securing the United States a third pairs position at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026.

To do so, they must finish as one of the top three nations in the final standings of the pairs competition at the official Olympic Winter Games qualifying event for figure skating, the ISU Skate to Milano Figure Skating Qualifier 2025 – Beijing. Each nation competing can only earn their country a maximum of one position.

Shin and Nagy are one of 11 teams skating in Beijing. The pairs event takes place Friday and Saturday in China with the short program beginning at 3:30 a.m. ET Friday and the free skate starting at 2:30 a.m. ET Saturday.

U.S. Figure Skating clinched three positions each in the women's, men's and ice dance competitions for the 2026 Olympic Games at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2025. In Boston, it also earned two pairs positions with the opportunity to confirm a third.

If Shin and Nagy can earn the third position for the United States, it would mark the first Olympic Games since 1984 that U.S. Figure Skating would send a full team (three athletes/teams in each discipline) to the Games. The United States would also be the only country in figure skating to send a full team to Milan.

Their second season competing together, Shin and Nagy have quickly emerged as one of the top pairs teams on the U.S. Figure Skating National Team. They took home bronze in their international debut at their first Challenger Series event last season, 2024 Golden Spin of Zagreb, before placing fifth at the 2025 Prevagen U.S. Figure Skating Championships to earn a place on the Four Continents team.
