2024 Junior Grand Prix Season Kicks Off in Latvia

Ten U.S. skaters to compete in the first of seven Junior Grand Prix events

Ten U.S. skaters are set to compete at the first Junior Grand Prix of the 2024-25 season, which takes place Aug. 28-31 in Riga, Latvia.

Of those 10 skaters, six return for their second season competing in the Junior Grand Prix Series.

Leading Team USA are Olivia Flores and Luke Wang. The reigning U.S. junior pairs champions, Flores and Wang are looking to build on last season's success. They earned silver at both their Junior Grand Prix events before clinching another silver at the World Junior Championships.

Also competing in the pairs event are Reagan Moss and Jakub Galbavy, who are making both their Junior Grand Prix and international debut. They teamed up just over a year ago in June 2023 and placed sixth in the junior event at their first U.S. Championships as a team.

Aleksandr Fegan will be the sole entry for Team USA in the men's event. The 2024 U.S. junior bronze medalist placed just off the podium at his first Junior Grand Prix last season, taking fourth at JGP Armenia.

In the women's event, Team USA will be represented by Annika Chao. She enters her second Junior Grand Prix season with a fifth-place result from JGP Thailand last season as well as silver from Kings Cup International.

Sibling ice dancers Caroline Mullen and Brendan Mullen are seeking their first Junior Grand Prix podium finish. They started their season strong, claiming bronze in the junior event at the 2024 Lake Placid Ice Dance International.

Rounding out Team USA, Michelle Deych and Ryan Hu are skating at the junior level for the first time this season. Last season as novice skaters, they earned second at the U.S. Championships.

Competition begins Thursday with the women's, pairs and men's short programs. The ice dance event kicks off Friday, followed by the pairs and women's free skates. The final medals of the competition will be awarded Saturday with the men's free skate and free dance.

Fans can watch all the action from JGP Latvia, as well as the entire Junior Grand Prix Series, live on the ISU YouTube channel.

Entering its 27th season, the ISU Junior Grand Prix Series consists of seven international events in a cumulative point-scoring format. Each athlete is eligible to score points in two of the seven scheduled events (pairs can compete in two of four designated events). The top six point-earners in each discipline qualify for the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final 2024, taking place Dec. 5-8 in Grenoble, France.
