Six U.S. Athletes to Compete at Penultimate Junior Grand Prix in Slovenia

Six U.S. athletes will take the ice at the sixth stop of the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series, scheduled for October 3-5 in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

The penultimate Junior Grand Prix of the season, Jacob Sanchez and Sophie Joline von Felten will compete for the United States in the men's and women's events, respectively, while two ice dance teams – Caroline Mullen and Brendan Mullen and Yahli Pedersen and Benjamin Starr – will represent the red, white and blue.

Hot off of his gold medal-winning performance at Junior Grand Prix Turkey, Sanchez will vie for back-to-back podium finishes and look to lock his spot at the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating 2024 in France in December.

Also looking to keep their positive momentum and earn their second Junior Grand Prix medal of the season as well as a spot in the JGP Final in the ice dance event is Mullen and Mullen. The sibling duo out of Rockville, Md., clinched their first JGP medal, a silver, at the first Junior Grand Prix of the season in Latvia.

Joining them in the ice dance competition is the new team of Pedersen and Starr who will represent the U.S. for the second-straight week after finishing eighth at Junior Grand Prix Poland last weekend.

Von Felten travels to Slovenia after finishing sixth in the junior event at her first international competition this season, 2024 Cranberry Cup International.

The women's and men's short programs kick off the competition on Thursday followed by the rhythm dance and men's free skate on Friday. The final medals will be awarded on Saturday after the women's free skate and the free dance.

Fans can watch all the action from JGP Slovenia, as well as the entire Junior Grand Prix Series, live on the ISU YouTube channel.

Now in its 27th season, the ISU Junior Grand Prix Series consists of seven international events in a cumulative point-scoring format. Each athlete is eligible to score points in two of the seven scheduled events (pairs can compete in two of four designated events). The top six point-earners in each discipline qualify for the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final 2024, taking place Dec. 5-8 in Grenoble, France.
