The ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series continues this week with the fifth of seven stops taking place in Budapest, Hungary, Sept. 20-23.
Six athletes will represent Team USA with five competing in their second Junior Grand Prix of the season.
After teaming up in April, ice dancers
Yahli Pedersen and Jeffrey Chen medaled in their international debut, earning silver at the Junior Grand Prix in Turkey Sept. 6-9.
Teammates in Turkey,
Olivia Ilin and Dylan Cain will compete alongside Pedersen and Chen once again. They took sixth place in their Junior Grand Prix debut with international personal bests in the rhythm dance, free dance and total score.
Reigning U.S. junior silver medalist
Jacob Sanchez has his eyes on a medal in Hungary after finishing just off the podium at the first JGP of the season.
Competing at her first JGP this year,
Sherry Zhang enters the women's competition as the 2023 U.S. Junior Championships pewter medalist. She placed sixth at her JGP last season.
Competition begins Thursday with the women's and men's short programs. The event continues Friday with the rhythm dance and men's free skate before concluding Saturday with the women's free skate and free dance.
Entering its 26th season, the ISU Junior Grand Prix Series consists of seven international events in a cumulative point-scoring format. Each athlete is eligible to score points in two of the seven scheduled events (pairs can compete in two of four designated events). The top six point-earners in each discipline qualify for the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final 2023, taking place Dec. 7-10 in Beijing, China.
