COACH DEVELOPMENT

Development is about growth at every stage of a coach’s journey. Guided pathways and accreditations give coaches the opportunity to expand their expertise, advance their careers, and reach new levels of excellence. Together, we’re building a stronger future for coaching in figure skating.

Accreditation Pathway

The next step in coaching education is having something to show for your learning. Coaching Accreditations provide a guided path of study that allows coaches to demonstrate safe and effective methods for teaching skills in a particular discipline. Accreditations also appear in the Coach Directory, giving coaches visibility for their expertise.

Disciplines

Coaches may hold accreditations in multiple disciplines, including:

  • Group Instruction
  • Skating Skills
  • Singles
  • Pairs
  • Dance
  • Figures
  • Synchronized Skating
  • Theatre on Ice
  • Choreography
  • Skating Director

Levels

Each discipline includes four levels of accreditation: Level 1, Level 2, Senior, and Master.

Current Pathways

U.S. Figure Skating is actively developing full accreditation pathways. Currently, Level 1 Accreditations are available in Singles and Skating Skills. Find the required courses and pathways on the Members Only Coach page.

Advancing Accreditation

Coaches who previously held ratings from the Professional Skaters Association (PSA) were grandfathered into the equivalent U.S. Figure Skating accreditation level. These coaches, as well as any who complete U.S. Figure Skating’s Level 1 Accreditations, may advance within their discipline by completing oral exams modeled after the PSA rating process.

Exam Information

Dates and sign-ups for oral exams are shared through the Coaches Newsletter and on the Coach Homepage. Full calendar
