Whether you’re just starting your coaching journey or advancing to the highest levels, U.S. Figure Skating provides training, resources, and support to help you succeed. Become A U.S. Figure Skating Coach

To coach at U.S. Figure Skating–sanctioned events, start with the Coach Core Certification Course, available in Members Only. This course covers the fundamentals of coaching and is the first step toward joining Coach I.C.E., U.S. Figure Skating’s education, development, and accreditation program.

In addition to those professional requirements,Coaches must also complete a background check, SafeSport training, and carry liability insurance. All requirements can be managed through your Member Profile in Members Only, see "Login" button at the top of this page).

How to Join Coach I.C.E.

Members can log onto Members Only, and click the blue “Coach” button on the landing page to complete the U.S. Figure Skating Coach Core Certification course.

After you have completed step 1 and joined U.S. Figure Skating through a club or as an individual, purchase “U.S. Figure Skating Coach I.C.E.” at the same place on the website that you purchased the Core Certification Course.

Navigate to the compliance tab in your Members Only profile and complete any remaining coach compliance requirements, such as your background check, SkateSafe training, insurance and waivers. The Coach role will not show in your compliance until you have joined the Coach I.C.E. program.

From the Coach tab of your Members Only profile coaches can navigate to learning activities, take courses, etc. These will count towards your CEUs that keep your certification/accreditation active. Watch for the Coach newsletters that include information including rule changes and links to live webinars!

Become a Learn to Skate USA® Coach

Many coaches begin by teaching with Learn to Skate USA®. As a coach, you’ll introduce new skaters to the ice and help them build confidence.

To become compliant, instructors must:

  • Purchase a Learn to Skate USA® Coach Membership
  • Complete the coach course
  • Complete a background check and SafeSport™ Training*
  • Sign waivers and code of conduct

*All Learn to Skate USA® coaches under 18 years old are exempted from completing the background check and SafeSport training, although we do recommend these coaches take the SafeSport training for minors.

Compliant Learn to Skate coaches may coach on club ice (with club permission), and at Compete USA competition events. They also have access to liability insurance through U.S. Figure Skating’s partner carrier.
