Team USA Heads to Internationaux de France and Warsaw Cup This Week

Twenty-two Team USA athletes are headed to two international events this week – Internationaux de France and Warsaw Cup. Set for Nov. 19-21 in Grenoble, France, Internationaux de France is the fifth stop of the International Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series. Warsaw Cup will run Nov. 18-21 in Poland and is part of the ISU Challenger Series.

Set for Nov. 19-21 in Grenoble, France, Internationaux de France is the fifth stop of the International Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series. Warsaw Cup will run Nov. 18-21 in Poland and is part of the ISU Challenger Series.

The United States will send eight athletes to compete at Internationaux de France.

Karen ChenMariah Bell and Starr Andrews will represent Team USA in Grenoble. Chen is a 2018 Olympian and placed 10th at Skate Canada International last month. Bell has medaled at her last three Grand Prix appearances and will look to continue her streak at her first assignment of the season. Andrews placed 10th at 2021 Guaranteed Rate Skate America and finished fifth last week at Cup of Austria.

Jason Brown is the sole U.S. man headed to France. The 2014 Olympic bronze medalist earned the silver medal at Skate Canada International and will look to secure his spot in the Grand Prix Final in December.

In the pairs competition, Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier will make their second Grand Prix appearance. The 2021 U.S. champions finished fourth at Skate America®.

The United States will send Christina Carreira and Anthony Ponomarenko to Internationaux de France. The Montreal-based team finished eighth at Skate Canada International.

Fans can watch the entire event live and on-demand on Peacock Premium. NBC will also broadcast a recap show on Sunday, Nov. 21, from 4-6 p.m. ET. The Grand Prix Series Competition Central is the one-stop-shop for fans to follow Team USA, read up on the latest news and access schedules and results.

The Grand Prix Series, now in its 26th season, consists of six international events in a cumulative point-scoring format. Each athlete or team is eligible to score points in up to two of the six scheduled events. The top six point-earners in each discipline qualify for the 2021 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, set for Dec. 9-12 in Osaka, Japan.

Fourteen U.S. athletes will head to Warsaw Cup this week.

Lindsay Thorngren will make her senior international debut in Poland. The 2020 U.S. junior champion earned medals at both of her Junior Grand Prix assignments, qualifying for the Junior Grand Prix Final. Gabriella Izzo will join Thorngren in Warsaw. She is the 2019 U.S. junior champion and earned the bronze medal this fall at the U.S. International Figure Skating Classic.

Jimmy Ma and Eric Sjoberg will compete in the men's competition. Earlier this season, Ma and Sjoberg earned the silver and bronze medal at U.S. International Classic, respectively.

The United States will send three pairs teams to Warsaw Cup: Jessica Calalang and Brian JohnsonChelsea Liu and Danny O'Shea, and Emily Chan and Spencer Howe. Calalang and Johnson are the 2021 U.S. silver medalists and finished fifth at Skate America®. Liu and O'Shea made their Grand Prix debut as a team at Skate America®, finishing seventh. Chan and Howe return to international ice after placing sixth at the John Nicks International Pairs Challenge in September. 

Caroline Green and Michael Parsons lead the U.S. ice dance field in Poland. The 2021 U.S. pewter medalists finished fourth and fifth at their Grand Prix assignments in Canada and Italy, respectively. Eva Pate and Logan Bye will join them in Warsaw coming off a bronze-medal finish at U.S. International Classic.

The ISU Challenger Series is a group of 10 senior-level international figure skating competitions held each year to help skaters prepare and qualify for ISU Championship events.
