Team USA in First After Rhythm Dance at World Junior Championships

Smirnova and Siianytsia place fourth in pairs event.

Oona Brown and Gage Brown are in first place after the rhythm dance and pairs team Anastasiia Smirnova and Danil Siianytsia finished fourth in pairs on day two of the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2022 in Tallinn, Estonia.

Skating to “How Ya Like Me Now” by Kool Moe Dee and “I Got The...” by Labi Siffre, the 2021 U.S. junior silver medalists earned Level 4 on their twizzle sequence and all positive grades of execution to score an international personal best 66.98 points.

Angela Ling and Caleb Wein are in sixth place with 61.43 points. The 2022 U.S. junior silver medalists also earned all positive grades of execution and scored three Level 4 elements.

Katarina Wolfkostin and Jeffrey Chen currently rank ninth with 57.05 points.

Canada currently holds the second and third place spots going into the free dance, with Natalie D’Alessandro and Bruce Waddell second with 64.00 and Nadiia Bashynksa and Peter Beaumont third with 63.45.

Smirnova and Siianytsia finished fourth in the pairs event with 148.53 total points. In their free skate to “Je Suis Malade” by Lara Fabian, the 2021 U.S. junior champions earned Level 4 on two elements and scored 88.15 points in their free skate.

The tandem’s fourth-place finish is the best pairs finish for the U.S. at the Junior World Championships since 2013, when Haven Denney and Brandon Frazier captured gold.

Georgia’s Karina Safina and Luka Berulava won the gold medal with 188.12 total points. Australia’s Anastasia Golubeva and Hektor Giotopoulos Moore captured silver with 169.91 points, and Canada’s Brooke McIntosh and Benjamin Mimar earned bronze with 156.80.
