Sixth Annual National Get Up Day to be Celebrated Feb. 1

On Tuesday, February 1, 2022, U.S. Figure Skating invites people from around the United States to participate in the sixth annual National Get Up® Day.

On Tuesday, February 1, 2022, U.S. Figure Skating invites people from around the United States to participate in the sixth annual National Get Up® Day. The day is a celebration of those who embody the Get Up® spirit. On this day, people are encouraged to share their stories at WeGetUp.com, by using #WeGetUp or by contacting their local media outlet with their story, or the story of a friend or loved one, or an organization that is doing inspiring Get Up® work in their community.

U.S. Figure Skating encourages media outlets around the country to share Get Up® moments throughout the day on February 1, whether connected to the sport of figure skating or not, through feature stories, pictures, videos, social media, etc. U.S. Figure Skating also invites the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee and other National Governing Bodies of Sport and their members and fans to participate.

February 1 marks the midpoint of National Skating Month (January & February), when rinks across the country bring communities together to experience the joys and benefits of skating. The first lesson in skating is how to fall down, and more importantly, how to get back up again, a lesson all participants can apply across all aspects of their lives. Typically held in January, this year’s celebration will span two months to coincide with the Olympic Winter Games 2022.

National Get Up Day also arrives as the Olympic Winter Games are set to begin on February 4 in China. This national day of celebration is a legacy of U.S. Figure Skating’s Get Up® campaign.
