Mariah Bell is in podium position after the short program at 2019 Rostelecom Cup, the fifth stop of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series. Team USA also competed in the men’s and pairs events.
Bell, who earlier this month placed third at Internationaux de France, is third after her 67.11-point short program.
After faltering on her combo, Bell landed a triple Lutz and was awarded two Level 4 spins.
Evegenia Medvedeva and Alexandra Trusova of Russia are first and second, respectively.
In the men’s competition, Alex Krasnozhon is 10th after the short program. Earning 75.46 points, his program was highlighted by a triple flip-triple loop combination.
Russia’s Alexander Samarin, Dmitri Aliev and Makar Ignatov are in first, second and third place.
In pairs, Audrey Lu and Misha Mitrofanov are in eighth with 54.03 points. Like in the men’s field, Russia’s Aleksandra Boikova and Dmitrii Kozlovskii, Evegenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov, and Ksenia Stolbova and Andrei Novoselov hold the podium spots heading into the free skate.
Competition continues tomorrow with the free skates and free dance. Watch competition live and on-demand on the Figure Skating Pass on NBC Sports Gold.
