Charlie Cyr Awarded ISU Gold Award of Merit

Olympic judge and ISU official Charlie Cyr was selected as a recipient of the ISU Gold Award of Merit at the 2024 ISU Congress.

Olympic judge and ISU official Charlie Cyr was selected as a recipient of the ISU Gold Award of Merit at the 2024 ISU Congress.

Announced on June 8, Cyr is recognized for his contributions to the ISU as an official and as the ISU sports technical director for figure skating, becoming the first North American to be appointed and serving in the role for nearly 10 years. He also contributed to the establishment of the International Judging System (IJS).

He worked five Olympic Winter Games, including as the team leader for U.S. Figure Skating at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was inducted into the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame earlier this year.

The ISU Gold Award of Merit is awarded by the ISU Council to recognize an individual’s valuable contributions to ISU sanctioned sports at the international level.

The award will be presented posthumously as Cyr passed away in 2023.
