Carreira and Ponomarenko scored 174.21 total points to finish third in the competition. The duo had all positive grades of execution, scoring 105.20. Their victory marks their first career Grand Prix Series medal and third senior international medal of the season.
Russia’s Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin won the gold medal (199.43), and Sara Hurtado and Kirill Khaliavin of Spain round out the top three with the silver medal (174.42).
In the men’s competition, Alex Krasnozhon finished in eighth place with 208.01 total points. The 2017 U.S. junior champion scored 132.69 points on his free skate, falling from sixth to eighth place.
Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan claimed gold (278.42), Georgia’s Morisi Kvitelashvili won the silver medal (248.58) and Japan’s Kazuki Tomono took bronze (238.73).
Ashley Cain and Timothy LeDuc moved up from seventh to sixth place in the pairs competition, scoring 111.50 points in their free skate for an overall score of 170.29. Deanna Stellato and Nathan Bartholomay withdrew from competition due to illness.
Skate America champions Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov of Russia were crowned pairs champions (220.25), Italy’s Nicole Della Monica and Matteo Guarise took silver (203.83), and Russia’s Daria Pavliuchenko and Denis Khodykin captured the bronze medal (190.01).
Gracie Gold withdrew prior to the ladies free skate.
Olympic champion Alina Zagitova of Russia claimed gold (222.95), Russia’s Sofia Samodurova won the silver (198.01) and Republic of Korea’s Eunsoo Lim took bronze (185.67).
