The 2023 U.S. Figure Skating Qualifying Season begins this week with the 2022-23 National Qualifying Series. In the fall, the qualifying season continues with the 2023 Singles Sectional and U.S. Pairs and Ice Dance Finals taking place Nov. 8-13, 2022.

Approved at the 2022 Governing Council, the National Qualifying Season combines the standalone October qualifying competitions, Regional (singles) and Sectional (pairs and ice dance) Challenges into approved series competitions from mid-July to late September.

The U.S. Figure Skating National Qualifying Series (NQS) was approved by the 2018 Governing Council and implemented in the summer of 2019. The NQS is a series of competitions hosted individually by member clubs nationwide, in which athletes enter and earn a score. They will earn a placement in the individual competition they enter, an overall ranking in their level and a regional (singles) and sectional pairs and ice dance ranking.

Qualifying skaters will advance to a Sectional Singles Final, the U.S. Pairs Final or the U.S. Ice Dance Final, respectively.

Following the Finals, the top senior and junior athletes and teams from each Singles Sectional Final and U.S. Pairs and Ice Dance Final will advance to the 2023 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships, which will be held January 23-29, 2023, in San Jose, California. Alternatively, the top juvenile, intermediate and novice athletes and teams will be named to the National High Performance Development Team. The selected athletes will attend the National High Performance Development Camp in conjunction with U.S. Championships in San Jose. For specifics about advancement to U.S. Championships and National High Performance Development Team refer to the NQS Athlete Handbook here.
