Competition at the 2020 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships concluded in Providence, Rhode Island, with the announcement of the selections to the 2020 U.S. World Synchronized Skating Team. The ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships 2020 will be hosted in Lake Placid, New York, at Herb Brooks Arena on April 3-4.
The Haydenettes, who captured their 28th U.S. title this weekend, and 2020 U.S. silver medalists Skyliners will compete at the World Championships in Lake Placid, as USA 1 and USA 2, respectively. Miami University, who finished second in the free skate and won the pewter medal in Providence, has been selected as the first alternate team. The Crystallettes, who won the bronze medal, are the second alternate team. Adrian College finished fifth in the senior event.
The Skyliners junior team won their fourth consecutive U.S. junior title. They cleared the field by over 16 points with a total score of 200.51. In just their second year as a junior team, Teams Elite captured their second podium finish, taking the silver medal with 184.08 total points. The Skyliners and Teams Elite will compete for Team USA at the ISU World Junior Synchronized Skating Championships 2020 in Nottingham, Great Britain, March 13-14. The Starlights finished third (177.81) with the Lexettes in fourth (174.04) after jumping up from sixth in the short program to third in free skate.
Teams Elite won their first novice title for their organization, scoring 88.12 points in their “Proud Mary” free skate to top the field by six points. Fielding two novice teams for the first time, Skyliners Blue claimed the silver medal (81.70) while Skyliners Black won the pewter medal (76.82). The Star Mates rounded out the podium, scoring 77.96 points to win the bronze medal after finishing in eighth place last season.
In the intermediate field, the Ice Mates won their second straight intermediate title with 72.55 points. The Capital Ice Chips on the silver medal with 67.84 after narrowly missing the top three last season. Teams Elite won the bronze medal with 65.01 points and the Starlights picked up the pewter medal with a total score of 52.82.
Teams Elite also won their first juvenile title for their organization with 49.20 points. The Skyliners earned silver (48.96), marking their 12th straight top-three finish. The Mini Mates finished third (42.70) and DC EDGE placed fourth (41.76).
In the collegiate competition, the University of Michigan regained their title (106.49) after finishing third last season, marking their fourth U.S. crown. Adrian College claimed the silver medal (97.35), Miami University took the bronze (92.81) and the University of Delaware grabbed the pewter medal (80.85).
Esprit de Corp won the 2020 U.S. adult title for the first time since 2015 when the event was last held in Providence. The Crystallettes won the silver medal, California Gold picked up the bronze after finishing in last place in 2019 and Team Excel came in fourth.
Esprit de Corps earned the masters title for the first time since 2015 with 44.89 points. Allegro! scored 42.54 points to pick up the silver medal and DC EDGE was narrowly behind them with 42.20 points to win the bronze. The Goldenettes took the pewter medal with 38.58 points.
