The University of Delaware added its name to the U.S. Figure Skating history books, tying the record for most titles won by a single school after securing their seventh win at the 2024 National Intercollegiate Final this past weekend in Lake Placid, New York.
With their seventh win, the University of Delaware tied Boston University, which previously set the record at last year’s competition.
Tallying a final score of 303, the Blue Hens took home 11 individual titles – the most of any school.
David Shapiro successfully defended both titles he earned in 2023, securing gold in the junior solo free dance and pre-bronze solo pattern dance. Natalie Raab also won two individual titles in the silver solo pattern dance and Excel intermediate women’s free skate. Both skaters earned 24 points each toward the team’s final score.
Boston University secured the silver medal with 273 points overall. The Bulldogs earned nine individual titles, including gold in the intermediate and high team maneuvers events, where athletes compete as a team. Maria Lagutina was victorious in three events – Excel novice women’s free skate, intermediate solo free dance and preliminary solo pattern dance – contributing a combined 36 points for the three wins.
Joining Lagutina in representing Boston University on multiple podiums was Sophie Nye, who came away with wins in the novice women’s short program and Excel junior women’s free skate.
Taking home the bronze and pewter medals were Dartmouth College and New York University, which each clinched two individual titles. Dartmouth College edged out New York University 226-196, claiming five second-place finishes compared to New York University’s three.
Dartmouth recorded a team win in low team maneuvers and Sasha Fear secured gold in the gold solo pattern dance.
For New York University, Christina Tenzin won the novice solo free dance while Milly Wasserman won the Excel preliminary women’s free skate group A competition.
Team USA was well represented at this year’s event with 2022 Olympian Karen Chen earning gold in the senior solo dance event for Cornell University and Goku Endo of UCLA taking the top spot on the podium in the championship senior men’s free skate.
