Nine teams were awarded theatrical skating titles at 2024 National Theatre on Ice this past weekend in Evansville, Indiana, with Harmony Theatre Company of Michigan securing their seventh senior title. The Skating Club of Boston also took home gold in three divisions - junior, novice and intermediate while the Space Coast Hurricanes won gold in the juvenile and open categories.

Senior
Harmony Theatre Company of Michigan successfully defended their senior title, their seventh overall title in the division, extending their lead as the winningest senior team in the history of the event.
The team’s choreographic exercise to “Exogenesis: Symphony Part 3” by Muse tallied the top score with 57.60 points.
In the free performance, Harmony maintained the top spot overall with their eerie free performance set to a remix of the song “Sandman,” which totaled 87.92 points for an overall total of 145.52.
Finishing just over one point behind Harmony to earn silver was Forte of Boston. Their free performance to “Whiplash” by Hank Levy, “Take Five” by Dave Brubeck and “Tank” by Seatbelts won the free performance with 87.92 points, due in part to a combined 19.7 points for their theatricality and creation of a universe.
Capital Theatre on Ice captured bronze with their free performance to “Eleanor Rigby” by the Beatles, contributing 68.15 points to their total score of 115.19.
Virginia Ice Theatre finished with the pewter medal and a final score of 114.19.
Junior
Standing on top of the podium for the fourth year in a row was Act 1 of Boston. The team out of the Skating Club of Boston started off the first day of competition strong, collecting 46.81 points for their choreographic exercise to “Ta fête” by Stromae.
Their free performance, which portrayed the struggle of dealing with the questions that can flood an artist’s head with doubt, worry and anxiety, earned 75.49 points. Overall, the team clinched the gold medal and a score of 122.30, nearly nine points ahead of second place.
Los Angeles Ice Theatre captured silver with an overall score of 112.34. Skating to “Poetry of Madness” by Succession Studios and Greg Dombrowski, and “Can’t Hold us Down” by Tommee Profit and Sam Tinnesz” in the choreographic exercise, the team earned 43.71 points on the first day of competition. Their siren-themed free performance tallied 68.63 points.
Fellow California team San Francisco Ice Theatre secured bronze with 105.97 points thanks to their “letter to my future self”-themed free performance.
Creative Ice Theatre earned the pewter, totaling an overall score of 102.02.
Novice
Winning their first of three titles at the event for the Skating Club of Boston was Encore of Boston. Their choreographic exercise scored 39.39 points, thanks to being the only team in the novice competition to earn over seven points for a program component, which Encore achieved in each of the five categories in their skate to “Birthday Suit” by Cosmo Sheldrake.
Flashing forward in time to the year 2040, Encore’s post-apocalyptic free performance earned 67.85 points for a total score of 107.24.
Following the journey of a young girl whose imagination takes her on an adventure with her favorite doll, Harmony Theatre Company of Michigan earned 60.83 points in the free performance, adding to their choreographic exercise score of 38.50 for a total of 99.33 points.
Ocean State Ice Theatre secured bronze with a two-day score of 95.48. Their Hotel California free performance told the story of a hotel guest becoming caught up in the glamorous lifestyle of the guests, but they soon realize they are trapped and need to escape.
Rounding out the podium with the pewter medal and a score of 89.69 was Los Angeles Ice Theatre.
Juvenile
Winning their first of two titles over the four-day event was the Space Coast Hurricanes. Their choreographic exercise set to “La Noube” by Cirque du Soleil tallied 21.60 points.
Their “Astronauts and Aliens” free performance was out of this world, collecting 38.61 points with their highest marks being awarded for theatricality. In total, the team was awarded 60.21 points.
Prelude of Boston captured the silver medal with an overall score of 58.36. Their free performance told the story of a group of flowers in which morning gets disrupted by a firebird, but are saved by a water goddess. The performance earned a score of 38.24 points for a total score of 58.36.
Team Envision took the bronze medal with 57.27 points. The team’s Barbie-themed free performance challenged societal norms by demonstrating all that young women can do and be.
Capital Theatre on Ice concluded with the pewter medal and a total score of 54.56.
Intermediate
Allegro of Boston was victorious in the intermediate division, winning gold with a score of 72.57. Their choreographic exercise to “Ainsi Bas La Vida” by Indila earned a score of 28.16. This gold marked the third for the Skating Club of Boston at this year’s event.
On day two of competition, their free performance told the story of a group of kids sneaking from their houses at night. This skate contributed 44.41 points to their overall score of 72.57.
The North Shore Crystal Blades finished with the silver medal. Encouraging the audience to listen to their inner voice, their free performance was awarded a score of 40.32, with 4.65 points being awarded for their creation of a universe. The team secured a cumulative score of 66.35.
Capital Theatre on Ice clinched bronze with 63.81 points. Their powerful free performance focused on the overwhelming pressure and internal struggles teenagers face, including self-doubt.
Symmetry Ice Theatre stood on the final spot on the podium, taking pewter with a total score of 56.30.
Preliminary
San Francisco Ice Theatre captured gold with an overall score of 58.50. Their choreographic exercise to “Memories of Summer” by Philip Hochstrate received 21.40 points.
On day two of competition, San Francisco’s free performance to “Help a Girl Choose” by Cirque du Soleil cemented the team’s position in first with a score of 37.10. Overall, the team totaled a score of 58.50.

Also skating to a pirate theme, Houston Ice Theatre Skaters clinched the bronze medal and an overall score of 54.91.
Capital Theatre on Ice earned the pewter medal with 47.87 points.
Adult
2023 adult silver medalists Atlanta Ice Theatre Unsupervised upgraded their medal to gold this year, collecting 90.35 points overall. Their choreographic exercise to “Sit Down Beside Me” by Patrick Watson earned 28.51 points.
Their free performance to “Clouds” by Patrick Wilson showed that even in the darkest times there, is hope. The skate earned 61.84 points, giving them an overall score of 90.35.
Harmony Theatre Company of Michigan came in second. The team won the choreographic exercise portion of the competition with 29.38 points.
Imagica of Boston finished in third with 67.16 points. Their free performance was set to “Three Butterflies” by Tape Five.
Finishing less than two points behind to claim the pewter medal was San Francisco Ice Theatre with a score of 65.41.
Open
Space Coach Hurricanes claimed their second title of the competition in the open category. Starting off the first day of competition, the team earned 30.52 in the choreographic exercise while skating to music by Daft Punk.
In a battle between good and evil among all humans, their free performance to music from Jekyll and Hyde secured 52.81 points. In total, they earned 83.33 points to stand on top of the podium.
Team Spectacle finished with silver and a total score of 79.32. Their choreographic exercise to “Rage” by Samanta Margret collected 30.21 points.
Telling a story of resilience, the team tallied a score of 49.11 in their free performance skate to “Warriors” from League of Legends.
Harmony Theatre Company of Michigan secured a third-place finish with a cumulative score of 77.87.
Houston Ice Theatre finished with pewter with an overall score of 73.26.
Adaptive/Unified
Virginia Ice Theatre was victorious in the adaptive/unified competition, winning their fourth consecutive title with a score of 29.87.
The Chicagoland Ice Theatre Inspirations finished with the silver medal after their performance to “For Good” and “Defying Gravity” from Wicked earned 25.63 points from the judges.
Unified BRAVO’s skate to “Try Everything” from Zootopia earned 18.64 points for a third-place finish.
