SkateSafe® Best Practices at U.S. Figure Skating Events

As competition season is well underway, we’d like to offer a behind the scenes look at how U.S. Figure Skating implements SkateSafe® policies and best practices into its competitions

As competition season is well underway, we’d like to offer a behind the scenes look at how U.S. Figure Skating implements SkateSafe® policies and best practices into its competitions. The U.S. Figure Skating team puts in an enormous amount of effort to provide high quality events for its members – think of the DJ at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, the rink boards promoting our sponsors, the in-venue experience for spectators and the coordination of bringing athletes and their coaches to the competition.

Further to what you may see from the stands, there are certain requirements mandated by the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee as well as the U.S. Center for SafeSport that our organization must implement to promote a safe competition. This includes compliance with SafeSport™ training and background checks, ensuring no banned or suspended person is permitted to participate in our events and activities and having a quality control system that ensures we’re holding ourselves accountable to these high standards.

You can learn more about this quality control system here

While U.S. Figure Skating may be required to implement certain procedures, there’s a lot that the team implements at our events that goes above and beyond. Our credentialing system helps with security on site while signage throughout the venue serves as a reminder to policies such who’s permitted in locker rooms and the Two-Deep leadership requirement for medical treatment of minors.
