Feb. 1, 2021, marks the fifth annual National Get Up Day. To celebrate this anniversary, U.S. Figure Skating is hosting its first-ever Get Up Virtual 5K presented by Guaranteed Rate. This event will take place virtually and participants will have the opportunity to skate, run, bike, walk, roll or complete the 5K distance any way they choose.
During these unprecedented times, it is recognized that everyone is playing their part in getting up, whether it is themselves or helping someone else. Join U.S. Figure Skating in supporting those efforts and celebrating National Get Up Day by registering for the Virtual 5K.
Registration opens today, Friday, Jan. 15, and closes at 11:59 p.m. ET on Friday, Feb. 26. A printable bib will be provided through a confirmation email upon registering, and participants will have the entire month of February to complete the 5K and submit a photo of themselves wearing their bib to receive an official Get Up 5K T-shirt, certificate and recognition within the Get Up Virtual 5K finishers list. The cost to register is $25 for members of U.S. Figure Skating and $35 for non-members.

All net proceeds will benefit the Memorial Fund, which supports arguably the most noteworthy “Get Up moment” in the history of figure skating in the United States. Just days after Sabena Flight 548, carrying the 1961 U.S. World Team to the World Figure Skating Championships in Prague, Czechoslovakia, crashed in Berg-Kampenhout, about 45 minutes outside of Brussels, Belgium, the Memorial Fund was established. Today, the Memorial Fund recognizes our past and supports our future by providing skating and academic scholarships to up-and-coming athletes. To learn more about the Memorial Fund, click here.
Communication will be shared with registrants in February to mark the start of the competition window, along with a link to the form where you can submit your photo to confirm you have completed the 5K.
