Entering the final month of the National Qualifying Series, qualification for the Sectional and U.S. Finals continued as four competitions were held across the country from August 19 through August 28.

The following four competitions took place in the last two weeks:

Highlights from the last two weeks include:

  • Juvenile ice dancers Marian Carhart and Denis Bledsoe impressed officials and audience members at the Onyx Challenge with their maturity in relating to one another in their performance, particularly in the free dance. The duo won the juvenile combined dance event with 94.61 points.
  • At the Potomac Open, senior woman Ting Cui excelled in expression, composition and character, especially in her tango-themed short program. What most stood out was her exemplary choreography and presentation as well as her ability to hit every nuance of the music while using her entire body to reflect the tango character.
  • Athena Huang skated an outstanding short program at the Southern California Open Championships. Her skate featured a triple toe loop-triple toe loop and a triple loop that were executed with fantastic power and energy. Huang won the novice women’s combined event with 142.76 points.
  • While Samuel Mindra had to withdraw from the 2022 Sherwood Invitational due to injury, he remained at the rink all day to cheer on fellow competitors. He also filled in holes in the ice before ice resurfaces to ensure a smooth surface for all athletes. His sportsmanship, resilience and respect for the skating community didn’t go unnoticed!
