Everhardt Leads Team USA After Day One At Finlandia Trophy

Sarah Everhardt leads Team USA after the short program at Finlandia Trophy, finishing third in the segment. U.S. pairs Emily Chan and Spencer Howe are fifth after the short program.

U.S. pewter medalist Sarah Everhardt delivered a mistake-free short program during day one of the Finlandia Trophy in Helsinki, Finland, the fifth of six stops in the ISU Grand Prix Series.

Her program to “Reel Around the Sun” by Bill Whelan was third in the segment and was highlighted by flawless jumps and a lively step sequence.

She earned positive GOEs on every element en route to a score of 66.28.

Everhardt, a training partner of World and U.S. champion Ilia Malinin in Reston, Virginia, began her “Riverdance” program with a triple toe loop-triple toe loop combination that produced 9.30 points. She received Level 4s for her three spins and Level 3 for her step sequence.

Everhardt is seeking her first Grand Prix medal, having finished fifth at Grand Prix de France in her debut earlier this fall on the ISU Grand Prix Series. She sits third, just 1.59 points behind the leader.

Lindsay Thorngren posted a score of 57.37 and is eighth overall.

Emily Chan and Spencer Howe sit in fifth place after the pairs short program, posting a score of 58.93. The 2023 U.S. silver medalists started strong with a Level 3 twist and a throw triple flip, that earned 6.92 and 6.44 points, respectively.

They are just 2.36 points from the third-place team.

Naomi Williams and Lachlan Lewer placed seventh with a score of 52.30.

Reigning U.S. bronze medalist Camden Pulkinen finished 10th in the men’s short program, with a score of 64.34.

Competition continues tomorrow with the men’s and women’s free skates followed by the rhythm dance.
