Special Achievement Awards

The U.S. Figure Skating Special Achievement Awards are pins given to juvenile, intermediate and novice athletes to encourage performance-related markers in their programs at the Regional and Sectional Championships. Awards are given out during the qualifying round free skate events, short program events and final round free skate events at the Regional Championships for singles athletes and at the Sectional Championships for pairs and dance athletes.

For 2019, Special Achievement Awards will be awarded in juvenile, intermediate and novice singles for the following:

  • -The skater in each group with the highest point total for spins
  • -The skater in each group with the highest Skating Skills mark total
  • -The skater in each group with the highest Interpretation mark total
  • -Every skater that earns at least two +3’s for an element
  • -Every skater that earns a jump bonus point

Pins will be awarded for the first execution or achievement of the criteria. Athletes will only be eligible to receive an award for each of the above criteria once.

Special Achievement Awards will be awarded in juvenile, intermediate and novice pairs for the following:

  • -The team in each event that earns the most points for a pair spin.
  • -The team in each event that earns the most points on their pivot figure (juvenile)
  • -The team in each event that earns the most points for their twist (intermediate and novice)
  • -The team in each event that earns the highest Skating Skills mark total.

Special Achievement Awards will be awarded in juvenile, intermediate and novice dance for the following:

  • -The couple in each event that earns the most points for twizzles.
  • -The couple in each event that earns the most points for lifts
  • -Every couple that earns at least one +2 from any judge (only one award per program)
  • -Every couple that achieves a level 2 or higher on their step sequence (intermediate or novice)
