2014 International Synchronized Skating Season Begins This Week With Leon Lurje Trophy

(1/15/14) - Four U.S. synchronized skating teams are set to kick off the international season this week at Leon Lurje Trophy in Gothenburg, Sweden. The Skyliners (The Skating Club of New York) and the ICE'Kateers (Glacier Falls Figure Skating Club) will compete in the senior competition while the Synchroettes (Essex Skating Club of New Jersey) and Miami University will compete at the junior level. The event is set to take place Jan. 16-19, at Frolundaborg Ice Rink.

The Skyliners, who train in both Monsey, N.Y. and Stamford, Conn., will represent Team USA for the second consecutive season. The 2013 U.S. pewter medalists made their international debut last year at Spring Cup, where they finished fourth. Joining them are Anaheim, Calif. natives, the ICE'Kateers, who will compete internationally for the fourth time.

The Synchroettes junior team, who train in West Orange, N.J., return to this event as the reigning bronze medalists. They are joined by Miami University of Oxford, Ohio, who will compete in their sixth international season.

All four teams are also set to compete at the 2014 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships Feb. 26-March 1, in Colorado Springs, Colo.
