2013 U.S. Qualifying Season Continues this Week

Portions of sectional championships to be broadcast live on icenetwork.com

(11/8/12) - The 2013 U.S. Figure Skating qualifying season continues Nov. 8-13, 2012, with the Eastern, Midwestern and Pacific Coast sectional figure skating championships. Competitors will participate in singles, pairs and ice dancing at five levels (juvenile, intermediate, novice, junior, senior). The top four finishers at each level in each discipline will compete at the 2013 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships Jan. 20-27, 2013, in Omaha, Neb.

For the first time, icenetwork.com will broadcast live coverage of the sectional championships on Sunday, Nov. 11, and Monday, Nov. 12, to Season Pass subscribers. Icenetwork.com will present one live feed, rotating coverage between each of the three sectionals based on the events taking place at that time.

"With icenetwork.com's expanded live coverage of the sectional championships, fans are able to more closely follow all of our athletes, not just senior-level competitors," U.S. Figure Skating Executive Director David Raith said. "Using cutting edge technology, icenetwork.com is now able to bring our fans more extensive live coverage from venues of all sizes across the nation."

Sarah Hughes, the 2002 Olympic champion, and Tonia Kwiatkowski, a three-time U.S. medalist, will host "Ice Desk Live" from the MLB Advanced Media (MLBAM) broadcast studios at Chelsea Market, located in New York's technology sector and in the same building in which MLBAM, U.S. Figure Skating's digital media partner, is headquartered.

The duo will provide expert analysis and updates from each sectional, interview in-studio and call-in guests, including 2012 U.S. champions Ashley Wagner and Meryl Davis and Charlie White, and look ahead to the 2013 U.S. Championships. On-demand coverage of each skater, from all three sections, will be available to Season Pass subscribers as soon as possible following the conclusion of the events.

Several members of the 2012-13 U.S. Figure Skating team envelope will compete at the sectional championships, including two-time Junior Grand Prix Series medalist and 2011 U.S. junior champion Courtney Hicks (Pacific Coast), Max Aaron (Midwestern), who has won a pair of international medals this fall, and international pairs competitors Felicia Zhang and Nathan Bartholomay (Eastern).
