(4/13/11) - The 2011 Nations Cup and National Theatre On Ice Competition took place April 6-10 at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center in Hyannis, Mass. The events were hosted by the Yarmouth Ice Club.

"'Wow' is the only word I can think of that comes close to conveying my impression of the exemplary effort put forth by the numerous volunteers in charge of coordinating these two competitions over the past year," said Judy Edmunds, national vice chair for Theater On Ice and the chief referee at the two competition "The ability of the organizers to host two major Theatre On Ice competitions back to back, while ensuring each competition had its own identity, is extraordinary. I am so proud to not only be the vice chair of Theater On Ice but to also live in the 'village' where these two exceptional events took place."

This was the first time that the Nations Cup was held in the United States. In all, 579 skaters on 29 teams representing six countries took part in the event. The United States led the way with 12 teams, followed by France (nine), Russia (four), Spain (two), and Ukraine and Australia (one each).

The fourth National Theatre On Ice competition included 637 skaters from 13 states (Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Vermont, Texas and Rhode Island) competing on 34 teams at the senior, junior, novice, adult and preliminary levels. This is the second year in a row that the national competition consisted of a record number of teams.

Theatre On Ice (TOI) combines the grace of figure skating with the drama and excitement of theater and dance. TOI teams consist of eight to 30 skaters, utilizing compelling choreography and original theatrical sets / props to convey a musical theme. Judges evaluate TOI programs based on their technical merit and presentation, inclusive of originality, costuming, artistry and musicality.
