(6/11/09) - All 46 of U.S. Figure Skating's A and B Envelope athletes and their coaches will gather at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., June 11-14 for U.S. Figure Skating's third annual Champs Camp.
The purpose of Champs Camp is to prepare elite U.S. athletes and coaches for the 2010 and 2014 Olympic Winter Games, assist with planning and setting goals, improve communication skills, implement programs to enhance training, clarify U.S. Figure Skating policies and procedures, give media training, and highlight the organization's marketing efforts.
Champs Camp gets underway Thursday with an assortment of medical and sports psychology meetings. Friday is dedicated mostly to icenetwork.com and SKATING magazine photo and video shoots, followed by an athlete dinner. All attendees will gather Friday evening for a welcome and orientation, with a keynote address being delivered by Olympic champion Dorothy Hamill and Olympic silver medalist Peter Carruthers.
Attendees will sit in on and participate in a variety of seminars Saturday, the topics of which range from media training to anti-doping to elite athlete health insurance, and the day will conclude with a team-building activity. National and international judges and officials will discuss international judging system strategy Sunday morning.
Icenetwork.com will provide coverage of Champs Camp, including photos, video and blogs, during the course of the event and beyond, and you can also find updates on U.S. Figure Skating's Twitter page, www.twitter.com/USFigureSkating.
